Twenty-eight years ago in Sarasota, the vision of a few became reality. Influenced by a growing movement in Europe that had yet to take hold in the United States, that vision was for the creation of a unique method of delivering care to those with advanced illness. It would focus on treating the whole person — body, mind and spirit — and would empower patients to make choices impacting the quality of every day for themselves and their families.

Today, that vision has grown into a vibrant movement serving four counties and more than 6,000 patients and families annually. We have evolved from a tiny oddity into one of the nation's largest not-for-profit hospices. Yet despite that massive growth, we have always remained true to the vision of our founders. We are dedicated to our mission of providing the highest quality of care to patients and families dealing with advanced illness, while honoring human dignity and personal choice.

More area residents than ever before are now taking advantage of our services — whether that means traditional hospice care, our free bereavement support groups, children's programs or volunteer services through our Transitions program. It is a breadth of offerings that make us the unquestioned experts in end-of-life care.

While we are proud of our heritage and our recognition as part of a larger hospice movement, we move into a new era in our development with an eye on distinguishing ourselves as a premiere end-of-life healthcare provider. For years, there has been a misconception that hospice is universal — that all hospices are branches of a larger national organization. While we all share the same basic philosophy, we are unique, independent entities offering our own special and exceptional programs.

TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care is committed to making a difference in the lives of people at the most challenging of times. We are focused on helping each and every one of our patients live every day to its fullest, surrounded by the people and things most important to them.
